Hi received my 2022 S1000XR yesterday. When I removed the top box I noticed the mounting plate is loose. Is this normal i.e. floating?

Yes, its quite common on bikes nowadays. The topbox plate can move side to side slightly to damp out any slight wobbles at speed.

Yep, pretty common, my old 2010 Honda VFR1200FD had the same setup...a vibration damping system I suspect.
