I would say this is definitely NOT normal! I have a S1000R with 43000 miles and a S1000XR with 35000 miles both on the original clutches and no issues

Either you clutch is adjusted incorrectly or something is going horribly wrong inside the engine. What's being replaced? Clutch plates? Basket? bearings? Same here, 46k mile on my XR with original clutch.

First one was fitted by bmw under warranty about about 1000 miles after first service and they replaced the clutch assembly (Vines of Guildford)
My bike was serviced about 2 weeks ago at about 6000 miles and is now going back in on Monday for the same symptoms (Bahnstormer Maidenhead)

What actually are the symptoms you didn't mention? Is the bike otherwise ok?

That more than likely has nothing to do with the clutch. The clutch does nothing when shifting with the QS and as long as it's disengaged has no role in finding neutral either. You're looking at a gearbox issue there. I'm surprised BMW would be going for the clutch given these symptoms.

Agreed..  even when I was running open dry clutches on my old Ducatis I wasn't going through plates that fast..  The clutch is likely a symptom of something else or something else is causing the clutch to prematurely wear out.

I'm not so certain the clutch is even worn out, OP just said assembly was replaced. I know BMW only sell the clutch as an assembly anyway but could've been replaced for a multitude of reasons.
