I read that all the road racing events in Northern Ireland are cancelled this year due to the cost of the 3rd party liability insurance. Such a pity.
Maybe the riders should just go and race in unsanctioned 'bike meets' instead.

Just seen this on NW200 facebook page

"Yesterday the sport’s governing body, the Motor Cycle Union of Ireland (UC), announced the cancellation of all motorcycle sporting events in Northern Ireland this year. But the organisers of the NW200 have not given up the fight. We cannot afford to lose an event that has been running for over 90 years and plays such a vital role in the economy of the north coast area."

As is the way over there their playing ‘Hard Ball’ I’ve seen the figure of £400,00 mentioned for the insurance premium but frankly compared to the amount the races particularly the NW200 bring in it’s a drop in the bucket, and no doubt the organisers think the insurance folk are trying have e’m over and I should imagine there has been some interesting conversations between organisers and the NI Goverment about who is doing what towards the local economy.
