    Lithium battery question

So I’m on my third battery. The first two died at around two years. So the next one is lithium. Luckily never left me stranded. The bike has been parked for 8 months and I’m getting ready to put it back on the road. I tried starting it the other day and it fired right up. My question is should I put the lithium battery charger on it to bring it up to full charge or just get out and run the piss out of it for a couple hundred miles?

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    David

stators/alternators are designed for maintaining a battery, not charging them. It's always more advisable to charge a battery with a charger.

That's not entirely accurate, a stator and alternator will fully charge up a battery that's simply low on charge, but often there is a reason they are low on charge and in that case all they can do is maintain them. With a lithium battery it's like a phone, as long as it's got juice, it'll keep working and the bike will charge it to 100%, if you run out of juice though, that's when the uh-oh hits.

With 6 bikes on the go,all have a lithium battery including the XR there’s always a bike that’s standing for a time so periodically put all of them on a charger and keep a record of the date it was done, the oldest one is over 6 years now and still going well.
