For me its as simple as I've had 4 RR's and am sick of the lack of comfort now. I mainly do long trips which the RR never made sense for, but I just loved it so much I ignored it. Now I'm older, I want some comfort. I've ridden old and new XR's and was aware how good they are. So now that the M is coming. I would like to retain the RR engine but gain the comfort. That way I feel like I didn't leave one of the things I love about the RR.

I don't think just plopping the RR engine into a XR chassis is the answer.  XR is a upright sport touring bike not a full on sport bike.  I was hoping BMW was gonna modify the existing XR engine for a bit more low/midrange.  The RR makes most of that 200+HP when it's bouncing of the rev limiter and that isn't what the XR is about.  Just in my opinion.

So I had the M1000R out yesterday whilst my XR was in for service and WHAT a beast.

I know all our opinions are super subjective but being in my early 60's with a history of litre sports bikes for many years, it's difficult to let go of that adrenaline fix
of blasting about on your machine with your mates on a Sunday morning.

So for me, if the M1000R is anything to go by then I'm all in and bugger the expense. The mortgage is paid and the reality of not too many more years of riding left, so why not!!

I'm not doing the Shudda, Wudda, Cudda thing, would rather do "If I can, then why not"

Let's see what comes out with the soft launch on Monday 6th. :152: :047: :028:

Anyone know if the release will be done "on-line" as they have for previous model updates?  If so can you point us to a link please.  Only thing I have read is 6pm CEST on a US thread posted above...  Thanks, Peter
    R1250RT two up / S1000XR for fun!

I don't love the reveal (not a fan of winglets, carbon fiber or black bikes), but I do like the blue brakes and of course the possibilities the RR shiftcam engine brings to the table (just watched Beaubier and PJ walk away from most of the field in motoamerica yesterday).  I'll probably pick one up and put the three of them head to head and see who wins out.  Will try to wait for some of you braver souls to work the bugs out first though....and also for a better color to be released  :001:.

Well the BMW press reveal was less than impressive, almost outright disappointing, but the bike is what it is. We'll get to know more about it in a couple months I suppose. Surprised they claimed 223kg wet, because my Gen 1 XR was significantly lighter than that with a couple extra bits on it. I'd have thought all that carbon, even chucking the luggage grid would easily save at least 5-10kg. Centre stand not appearing to be on there either.

    S uper Highly N ickable

They should add as a standard - locks for front and back, high voltage - touch it and you die alarm

When I bought my first XR1000 it was 13K now we are at 22K+

    Lets see.....
