My solution to improve rear indicator visibility on a gen2 XR

I was not happy with the rear indicators on my gen2 in that others I ride with have commented that it is not always clear that I am indicating when braking as the brake light is so bright that the indicator becomes washed out and not easily seen. To me this was an accident waiting to happen so I have made a modification to the bike.

I purchased the mini led blinker lights from the internet. I already had a Hex ezcan fitted so wired them and set them up through the ezcan (there are easy options whereby you click on the item you want and for indicators it is either right indicator or left indicator) to avoid cutting into the bikes circuits and risking any can bus errors. Also with the ezcan there was no need to fit any resistors as the ezcan deals with it all. I had to make a hole in the plastic panels to allow me to mount them then feed the wires through, join and solder the wires and then shrink wrap the joints. I thought about mounting them onto the top corners of the number plate but they were less visible against the yellowy/orange background hence I put them against the black. I will run a bead of silicon around the light just to seal it from the elements.

I would put up a short video of them working except that I can't load a video to the photo gallery and don't know how else to do it.

I'm quite pleased with the mod and feel a little safer now !
p.s. sorry about the state of the bike, next job is to clean it !

i dont know your laws, but those would get you a fine/vehicle inspection here as  they are too close together.

solo motorcycles - 240mm at the front and 180mm at the rear. When performing the MOT (our road worthy annual test once a vehicle is 3 years old) the rules state 'There is no requirement to measure the separation distance and they should only be rejected if the separation distance is obviously incorrect'.

These are just under 180mm (178mm) as I'm not very good with a tape measure (particularly with panels loose to allow me to get in behind them when drilling and fixing) but from a safety perspective I'm ok to risk 2mm !

Not sure that going to a smaller in size light will be more visible (just thinking out loud)

I put Weisers in mine front/back, simple plug n play with the stock housing and really bright.

I occasional use a bag that hangs under the rear rack, which can partially obscure the indicators, so I fitted another set controlled by a Hex EzCAN Gen II
    https://youtu.be/_lph6pGS-qg

They are the plug-in Click 'n' Ride, so I can remove them when they are not needed.  They are quite a good match for the BMW indicators.
