Thanks for the writeup, @smithy. My last commuter bike was a 2016 AT DCT that I bought new explicitly for that purpose (daily commuting downtown in a congested US East coast major metro area). The DCT was brilliant for that purpose since I often found myself in stop and go traffic and could just sit back with one hand on the throttle and lug along as traffic moved. I sold it once I stopped commuting about 3 or so years ago, but typical Honda it never needed anything beyond basic maintenance. I would have gone electric if it had been available at the time since that commuting use case is perfect for electric, but I wasn't thrilled with the offerings in 2016 on the electric market. It sounds like the Energica maintains it's "fun to ride" status with the ludicrous torque and decent suspension and brakes. The AT was a great motorcycle, but if I am being honest it wasn't super fun to ride and when I would ride on weekends I would always take one of my other bikes. Part of that was performance based and I missed shifting, but part might also have been that I was kind of wanting something different on the weekends after spending a few hours on the AT every day during the week.
I hear ya re: the DCT....serveral years ago before I bouth the XR, I had a 2010 Honda VFR1200FD-DCT, it was a marvelous machine, fast, torquey, and only normal maintenance required, it never failed or let me down, just typical Honda. It was basically a big 1200cc V4 twist and go scooter. I had a lot of fun times on that bike touring with a few of my riding friends.
