    Screen bolts Torx size

I am trying to be organised ahead of time.

What size Torx (or other) key will I need to remove the screen from my new XR in order to fit a Vario screen, please?
I'll be making the swap directly when I collect the bike as I'll be heading straight off on a 450 mile trip.

    Cheers!

You're better off getting a "set" of torx tools, nearly everything on the XR's is held on with torx screws/bolts.

    Smithy.

Thanks, Smithy.  I have a set of 10 Torx drivers but would like to know which one will fit so I don't get caught out - especially if in fact it isn't the Torx head that I assume but something else.  I'm currently living in Sri Lanka and will return to live back in the UK almost immediately before collecting the bike, so am trying to plan ahead for the gazillion tasks to fit in to the first couple of weeks.  It's going to be go, go, go - and then off to ride the bike to the far side of the Czech Republic and back!  :002:

    Cheers,
    W

Both gen 1 and gen 2 are T15..

EDITED - T25 is correct.  Fixing in case it shows up in search.

:084: Typo? on my gen 2 they are T25. It's M5 thread which is typically T25... Just tried, as smaller torx bits can work but a T15 won't catch the T25 windscreen bolts at all. I changed to a WRS shield, and put if more flat but i'm sure I re-used 2 of the original bolts

I've a cheap Stanley ratchet screwdriver with bits in the handle. Replaced most bits with torx. I  fits neatly with the bmw provided strap into that storage space in the seat

You were right - T25.  I didn't have my readers on so when I slipped a T15 in there it felt like it fit.  What I forgot is that I have MRA Varios on both my bikes and they don't use the stock bolts and are actually hex and not torx.  :138:

Many thanks for clarifying the T25 to remove the stock screen, capt cf and Salem.   :763:

Since I will be fitting a Vario I searched online for the fitting instructions and found them.  I see mention of a T25 (I guess to remove the stock screen :002:) and a 3mm Hex.

(Edited to thank Salem whose post I had missed until capt cf drew my attention to it.  Sorry for that.)

Yep, @Salem was right on the money.  I just checked my varios and unless I cocked it up again a 3mm should be correct.
