Can you charge the xr with an optimate 3 or 4.

I have 2 optimate chargers a 3 and a 4 and i want to know if i can keep the bike on trickle charge on one of these,going to be getting the bike very soon and never had one with canbus wiring also can i bare the wires behind the hella adaptor to fit my tomtom wire,thanks for any advice.

Yes, yes & yes.

The accessory socket is only on when the ignition is live, which is good. It does mean if you stop to fiddle with the satnav you have to keep the power on or rely on the internal battery power.

I used an Optimate 4 on my XR. It is the canbus version but I never bothered using the socket. The battery is under the seat so very accessible and I used the croc clips.

I have an SAE pigtail on both XRs and use a Battery Tender on the old one (lead acid) and the Optimate Lithium on the new one (lithium).  Not sure what number/version of Optimate it is, but it's not dual mode like most of them (already had like 5 lead acid ones so didn't need another).  I have this one - https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/tecmate-optimate-lithium-08a-battery-charger?utm_campaign=order_confirmation&utm_content=Product&utm_medium=email&utm_source=RevZilla&sku_id=1001843.

I keep the bikes on them at all times when not being ridden.  Overkill, but it's a habit.  Mower is on one too.  :)
