    Punctures

    Hey guys.

I've been running Michelin Road 5's since purchase of my Gen 1 (18 months) and am happy with the handling / feel.

However, I have been, I feel, pretty unlucky with punctures over the last 9 months:  I've had 6.

My current rear road 5 has 4 self applied plugs in but the lastest (5th puncture) was at such an off-perpendicular angle it is definitely unrepairable this time...

Anyway, my question was not about the merits / safety of running with puncture repairs / plugs but I was curious... how frequently have you guys had punctures on the rear, especially with a Road 5?

Has you're experience been similar, or very different?

If you are doing a few miles in the city or suburbs each week - it might just be the lack of street-sweeping being carried out due to cutbacks?

Not heard of Road 5 being puncture prone, but Road 4 seemed to get a reputation for punctures, I remember.

I was unfortunate to get 1 puncture (which I plugged and rode until the tyre wore out) in the last 25000 miles of riding on Michelin Road 5s in a rear tyre so I think you have been extremely unlucky getting 6 in such a short time frame.

I don't think it's down to the tyre, but the bike. The XR seemed extremely prone to punctures, I've had almost a dozen since i owned the bike, At least 1 in every tyre with the exception of 1 set of road 5s... It must be the way the front wheel throws up crap and the weight/way the rear tyre hits it. Never had another bike so puncture prone... Sad but it is what it is, especially when roofer twats leave nails lying around...

Are you riding in the gutter or over lots of hatched areas? You'll pick up more crap on those parts of the road.

I have been riding my '16 for 5 years and 52000 km now and only every had 1 puncture.  It was a rear Road 5.
