    Gauging interest: 2015 S1000XR salvage £ 2999 - SOLD

    Hi all,

As I'm sure some of you may know I was knocked off my S1000XR a while ago.

I'm thinking of getting the salvage for the bike back but am not sure yet if I want to repair it, sell the salvage for someone else to have a go or sell the salvage for parts.

I'm just here gauging interest on selling the salvage as is, I'll post some pictures a bit later but here are some key facts:

~45000 miles on the clock, Sport SE, fully loaded + BMW Anti theft alarm, few essential extras (EP bar ends, EP rad guards, Black widow headers)

Damage to front right side of the bike, fair impact to the right fork legs and right hand side of the bike, crash bars took the brunt of the damage,

fairings have cracks and damage on the right hand side, expansion tank popped, I'll have to confirm details but radiator doesn't appear to be damaged. Handlebars don't appear bent. Right fork might be bent/damaged but not a lot - bike was rollable.

Front wheels appear OK along with brand new discs and pads.

Engine ok apart from minor scuff on clutch cover made by crash bars. Everything Fuel tank back is intact except scuffed up end can and passenger grab handle (not broken), frame is intact according to engineers report.

I'm looking for about £2,999 for the bike in the condition as is, but open to reasonable offers.

Bike ran sweet prior to accident, been using it extensively and never let me down, just recently replaced the only thing to ever go wrong on it, the unplugged Exhaust servo motor.

Repairs to put it back on the road would be most likely: Full fairing kit, or at least all of front and right side, new right fork leg potentially bottom triples and steering damper, new mudguard, new expansion tank and indicators, would check bracketry on right hand side under the fairing and radiator.

If someone needs a bike for spares or to convert into a trackbike (my plan B aswell) it could be a good bargain.

I'm just putting this up here to gauge interest before putting it up on Ebay for an auction. If you want the bike I can give you all my left over bits for it as well (stock screen, spare bits, OE exhaust), along with all necessary paperwork, V5, 2 keys etc

    Cheers

    Engineers report, deemed Cat N:

Don't want to sound harsh but 4k for a 45000 mile 15 plate with that damage (and possibly more, subframe gets damaged very easily if exhaust or peg hangers take a knock) sounds high.
To put it in perspective I bought mine, cat N in early '19. A 66 plate with sub 6k miles and main damage was exhaust can, subframe, rear R/H peg hanger, seat, R/H side fairings (both parts) and rear carrier, for £6200

Not many people will want a 45k mile bike / engine unless an absolute bargain and by time parts have been sourced yours could be 5.5 - 6k, only a K or so short of lower mileage non accident cat'd bikes.
With the mileage, I'd say only worth getting back if you intend to keep yourself and get a good deal from insurance co.

Fair play, I'm testing the waters and going based on what I've seen. The subframe is more than likely okay, it didn't take a big knock on the back end. crash bars absorbed the large majority as they should, the reason for the price is based on what i've seen salvage being sold for (16 plate with similar damage but complete front end, demolished (forks out of place, bent wheels, bars broken radiator definitely broken, with 27k miles went for 4300 on ebay auction.

And second is raw price of replacement parts. The engine is high miles for sure, but I still think it's worth at least 700 quid with full wiring loom and it's in perfect working order and well serviced.
I'd say another 300 for rear wheel, 150 for swing arm, 300 for ecu set, 200 for clocks, etc etc it does add up to be a bargain, I just don't have the time and effort to part it out.

As for repairs I've already priced up and to get it back on the road, going with used parts you need to spend about 2 grand on it. Realistically I want at the very least 3000 for it, I've updated the price in the listing. Rather it go to someone here, and be useful but, it might make more sense to auction it off for some breakers on ebay.

If you've no interest in keeping yourself then I'd say ebay auction might be your best way to get a decent price, as you say, pro. breakers can stand to have parts sitting around much longer waiting to sell and they have the room etc. to even break the engine down instead of selling as a lump to maximise profits long term.
Trouble with DIY breaking (have done a couple years gone by) is you may sell some big parts fairly easily, engine, frame, good plastics, but you will end up with lots of little bits and bobs no one wants and that makes up maybe 30% of the money you were hoping for.
Which ever way you go, good luck with it
