Hello World , considering buying this second hand S1000XR , Does the engine sounds neat  ?  is it covering a camshaft issue  in your opinion ?
    Thanks

Sounds perfectly healthy to me, these engines are noisy by default. Camshaft issue only affected early models and even then it was very rare, Ocean blue only started in Gen 1.1 (2017 onwards), by then this issue was long resolved, they're all but extinct now.

Yeah sounds fine to me.  I know my 2023 sounds like someone dropped a handful of washers into the engine case when it first starts up.  Especially when it's cold start.  My buddies RR sounds the same way too.

I had an '18 XR, I now have a '16 XR.  Normal rattle you're hearing on startup.  Replace the cam chain tensioner with  a manual!  My '16 jumped time 2 weeks ago on a ride.  I have 66,000 miles on it.  Spend a few $$$ proactively to save a lot of time, $ and hassle.
Now I get to drop the motor, pull the head and see how many bent valves I have.
Great bikes, just know the oem tensioners are a chronic BMW problem.  Hydraulic tensioner runs on oil pressure, manual keeps constant tension.

Couple on ebay, search for "S1000Xr manual cam chain tensioner" Don't spend big money on them, it's just a screw inside a screw, nothing fancy.

I put an $89 APE tensioner on my K12, I'm buying one off ebay for $10 this time.   Nothing bad to say about the APE, just price.

Bummer dude. Sorry to hear that. Let us know how it goes! Photos please!

My 16 sounds distressingly bangy and rartly and runs like a freaking weasel with it's hair on fire. Totally normal. Quite unlike the sewing machine smoothness of the FJR inline 4 or even Concours 14. I've come to appreciate that it represents the angry and aggressive nature of the bike.
