I have been searching for a single R for a while but have yet to find one at a decent price. Instead, I found a 2008 Honda CBR600RR listed locally.

A little back story, I'm a Mod on www.600rr.net and have been a forum member since 2011. I am a Honda guy, even though I enjoy BMWs. Well, when forums were popular (Facebook Groups ruined that), a gentleman on 600rr.net goes by "SLAPS808" and was a very well-known member. He and I have had many interactions on the forum (all good stuff, nothing damaging), and even though we lived close to each other, we never got a chance to meet in person.

Slaps passed away in 2017 due to a heart attack at the race track; he was 39 years young. RIP Slaps. About two weeks ago, a 2008 Honda CBR600RR popped up on Facebook. I made plans to meet with seller, but he had seller's remorse two days after we made plans. The seller stated that the bike belonged to a buddy of his that passed away. Without getting into details, I told him I understood and usually things like that, you can't put a price on.

A week goes by, and the seller messages me back, saying he thinks the bike needs a good home. Being a Honda guy, I told him, "I am that guy; I'm a Honda guy." This past weekend I got to see the bike. We started talking, and he mentioned his buddy who passed away. Can you guess who it was? You got it. The bike belonged to SLAPS808. The seller worked with Slaps in the military and bought the bike from Slap's widow. It's been sitting since 2017, and only about 300 miles put on the bike. You can see more on this post:

    - My response to the thread: https://www.600rr.net/threads/rip-slaps808-ride-safe-in-motoheaven.572586/page-2#post-8049703

Naturally, I had to buy the bike. I had my 9-month pregnant wife with me since we were running errands in town, but I told the seller I would be back. I told my wife the story, and she said, "You bought it, right? Please tell me you did". I guess I married the right one  :002:

As mentioned, she needs some love, actually a lot of it. But she will be back to her glory days shortly. I need to go through all the fluids, find a matching nose fairing, redo the braking system, refresh the suspension, and give her a nice detail.

Thanks. I literally got the goosebumps talking to the seller about the whole situation. How a bike that I thought has been long gone is sitting right here in front of me.

Great story, except the part your mate passed away.  :003: But a good ending and a fine owner, and home, for the Honda..  :028:

Thanks. Sad but I know Slaps is smiling knowing I now own the bike.

The bike came with OEM fairings and his old track fairings that are pretty beat up. Not sure if I want to continue riding with them, fix them and make them look pretty or sell them for super cheap and give the bike a new look.

Great looking bike - I've not looked at the CBR600RR for a long time - there aren't too many on the UK roads, it seems

Maybe they have all decended to track bikes now.   I don't see many R6 or Ninja 636 either now (although I was talking to a lad with a ninja 600 last weekend).

    Great fun bikes!

They're great all around bikes. Not the fastest or the have a cult following like the R6, but it looks great and is perfect for what I am wanting, a fun track bike.

Being that they are 15 years old now, you won't see many on the road. I plan on keeping this bike till I can't ride anymore, or hand over to my son if he decides he wants to ride.
