Hey all I’m looking to get shot of the Satnav and putting the phone adapter into the SatNav cradle so I can just use my Android phone, so what App are you using, and can you load your own routes into it?
I’d rather be laying in the Sun like a cat, than working like a dog for the cash!

Most of the good ones are paid, (Calimoto, Rever) although calimoto offers a free "area" so if you dont ride far from where you are could work for free, but they're not terribly expensive. If I just wanna get A to B, google maps is as easy and convenient as it gets.

I'm looking for something thats biking specific and decent too. The BMW Navi had brilliant route planning and worked really well.

Thanks for the response, I was more after what people do use and how they get on with the apps's.

I looked at Waze but it looks like you cannot import routes.

On the bike I'm not doing much A to B stuff I do understand most of the APP's have a twisty route function but I have hundruds of routes round the UK and France that I tweak then upland to the satnav and I'd like to do something similar.

Now it may be I just install Garmin or Tom Tom on the phone and see how it goes.

To be fair I've not had a go with the BMW Navi app as yet but it could be a good start point.

I primarily stuck to Google maps, the BMW navi and Calimoto when in the allowed area. BMW navi is by far the best experience but you're looking for apps so not entirely relevant, although their new app might use the same features?

Calimoto has good route planning and can export and import routes but the app itself is meh.

Google maps obviously works flawlessly especially with comms but doesn't offer nice riding, unless you tick off motorways and drag the route around a little bit. I used Navitel back in the day as an excellent free GPS app but not sure how it is now and not sure if it offers biking specific planning.

I used to make my own offroad routes and load them into OsmAnd and run that on an old Galaxy with no service plan and use that as my GPS.  I don't ride offroad much anymore so have just been using the BMW Connected Ride maps on the ConnectedRide Cradle.

By far the best system of route planning has been with Myrouteapp and they have just launched their app for phones and car play.

Here’s a link to their free trial

    https://mranavigationnext.app/startinfo/

I’ve used them for years and can’t fault them.
    Cheers,

    Wholeheartedly agree.
MRA evolved out of Tyre some years ago.
Not the cheapest, but it does it all; route planning, transferring, amending, sharing etc with a variety of basemaps (Google included).
    Well worth the investment.

Hey thanks all, that saves some of the guess work and researching lots of app's that don't work or are a bit crap.

I'll let you all know how I get on.

On this topic, has anyone used the google maps "saved map" feature?

I have created a few routes on my pc with google maps and saved them to my account.  They basically begin at Santander and have been created to take in the routes we specifically require. My issue is, will these actually work once my mobile signal is actually in Santander? There is no way for me to test this before hand and I actually feel the google nav will override my routes once I am there. I go to my saved routes but there is no begin or start option to activate the directions.

If this is not going to work, what options are out there? I just want to create my routes and save them for activation once I arrive in Spain. I don't have a sat nav, just my mobile.
