Which Navigation option do you use

I have a trip coming up soon , northern Spain/Pyrenees/Southern France.

I started off creating my routes with google maps and saving them until I realised they would not work. I then watched a few videos showing me, kind of, how to get the google maps saved routes to work which meant using several waypoints. This is fine and I have followed the youtube instructions but I am not convinced they will run once I disembark at Santander. I really don't want to be left with no navigation as I have picked out some cracking routes. Has anyone ever used this option?
Second question, If I go for the Motorrad Cradle, does this come with its own maps on the APP ?  Can they be plotted and saved to the APP for future use on arrival?
If not, what are the thoughts on the best APP? I really don't want to be paying monthly fees as I will only use it this one time. I do have a cheap phone holder already set up on my nav mount which I used to tour europe last time. We were in a large group though with a pack leader so did not rely on google nav. This time I will need it.
          Thanks
                    Phil

I binned my nav 6 when it started Ghosting! Bought the BMW connected ride cradle and used the bmw app. Works brilliantly, planned a complicated route round Scotland using basecamp, then forwarded GPX files to the whole group who then loaded it to their various devices and my Samsung phone which dropped it straight into the bmw app. Worked brilliantly and the cradle charges the phone, bonus being you can control the nav app with the jog wheel. Definitely worth the 200quid.
    What could possibly go wrong!!

Thanks quent, whats this basecamp thing? Just trying to find it on google. Is it an app? Is it something I can use on my desktop then send to my mobile?

Basecamp is a proprietary mapping suite made by Garmin. It will only work if you have a Garmin/BMW satnav as you will need to load the maps from your satnav to a computer. You then use the computer to plot routes and send them to the Garmin satnav. It works for Quent as he has a BMW Nav 6 but prefers to use his phone for navigation.

You can create routes on a number of free websites and export those routes to an app running on your phone such as the one that comes with the BMW cradle. Popular ones are MRA and Kurviger. Functions are limited in the free versions of the websites and each has a phone app if you want to go down that route. The phone apps usually have a subscription or one off fee. You might find one with a free trial that lasts the duration of your trip.

Personally, I use google maps for route planning and share the link with others if needed. I then transfer the routes to my Garmin Zumo 390 satnav. I find it pretty quick to do this using the inbuilt trip planner, then I know the route will not get corrupted due to using different map data. I leave it for others to put the route in their chosen device/app from the Google map link as I can't be bothered to sort out their technical problems because Tomtom/Garmin/Google/MRA mapping is not perfectly aligned or they do not understand their device.

I use https://kurviger.de to create a route, export it as a .gpx track file and load it into a TomTom Rider. I can also pass the same track to others so we all follow the exact same route.

Excellent advice thank you.   Just having a play with the Kurviger.   If I can work it out and then load it onto my mobile I will purchase the motorrad cradle.

Just be prepared for it to knacker your phone or your phone's camera depending on what model phone you have.  Late model iPhones seem to be the most affected (camera stabilization breaks) but there are reports of other models of phones being damaged when used with the ConnectedRide Cradle (my Galaxy S23+ was a victim just a few weeks ago).  I just use my old phone as a dedicated nav phone now and keep my current/active phone in my pocket.

Basecamp is great. Works really well for the BMW/Garmin devices.
