Hi All,
2020 S1000xr. Really starting to love it! Just got it a few months ago, but I had a "bad" start... Too much "comparing" to my Kawi Concours and it was not winning. I thought this was going to be an around-town, single rider bike that would also be fun for touring in the mountains when the wife wasn't on the back. But my first trip of only about 500 miles had my a$$ screaming with a bruising on the tailbone like I've never had before. (I fixed this issue... added padding to the seat with a "cut out" for the junk in the front and my tailbone in the back. Then I just ordered some of those rubber blocks so I can raise the front of the seat. (Saw an article on the other forum). I know this will solve the issues just from using the "lowering" rubber offsets upside down (they don't stay like that when you ride, but just sitting on it the seat felt great!). Just doing the foam addition made it much better, and for the last 2 weeks I've been "looking forward" to riding, and using it for everything from errands to group rides. It is FUN! :) So I'm working through my issues, because I see and hear what the bike is like when everything is "right" on YouTube.
1. Servo in the exhaust needs to go
2. Brentune needs to happen
3. Cat-box needs to go (way too hot on my feet)
4. I need to hear some exhaust noise over the sound of the loud motor.
So on to the next 2 items. Windshield and Mirrors. I'm in South Florida. I don't need protection from the cold! I want a very small windshield so that my head is in turbulent-free air. Over 90mph becomes really uncomfortable in the down position from buffeting. My Concours has the smallest MRA shield with the little flip-up part at the top... it is perfect for when we go through rainstorms, and gives me clean air at all speeds 1-120mph. (Not that I'm in triple digits very often....) I want the same clean air for my S1000xr. 31" inseam and I'm about 5'10. Looking for recommendations... I went through like 5 windshields on my Connie until I found the right one (MRA), but just because it works on that bike doesn't guarantee it works on this one.
Finally, my right rearview mirror shakes like crazy. I was watching my buddy's K1600 headlights behind me looking like hula-hoops going round and round, and wondering if there's a fix for this? My left is rock-solid. I have added heavy bar ends which got rid of most of the annoying vibrations, and then topped that off with grip-puppies...so my hands feel no vibration at this point, and only the mirror on the right is shaking. Is this the luck of the draw with BMW mirrors, or is there an adjustment, or can you recommend better mirrors?
