    2021 s1000 xr gear issue

I bought 2021 s1000xr last April and recently i have noticed that there is a clunky noise coming from gears while shifting… i feel like there is a gap changing the gear up and down as well. I feel it more when downshifting by using the clutch… especially from neutral to first gear clunky noise coming from the gear box… and recently noticed when downshifting gear doesn’t engage to the lower one by using clutch and the gear display goes blank unless I release the clutch just a bit or move the bike back or forth… obviously looks like there is an issue with the gear and needs to replace parts with that… also i am afraid it is gonna get worse if i carry on riding it…

     :400:

I think a trip to BMW dealer is on the cards.

    Is it still under warranty?

Ride it - don’t ride it - it’s all about risk.     I wouldn’t want the ‘box to seize up at 70, so that might sway me.  :027:

I took it to one of the BMW Motorrad shops and checked it out. They have only performed chain maintenance and adjustment. They thought they had sorted it out. However, the issue still persists. It seems like I need a proper mechanic who can resolve the problem… Can anyone suggest someone who can really fix this issue?

You haven't specified who the warranty is with.

If BMW - take it to a BMW dealer under the bmw warranty

If it is not with BMW - Check the terms and conditions of the warranty, and proceed from there.

I bought it from BMW Ocean in Plymouth. I was told it has a warranty until March 2024, and I assume it's a BMW warranty. When this issue occurred, I called BMW Ocean and was informed that I needed to contact BMW Roadside Assistance. I called them, and they picked the bike up, taking it to the BMW service center in Bristol. After a couple of days, I received a call from the Bristol BMW service center. They told me the issue was related to the chain, which had been adjusted too tightly, causing stiffness in the gears (although this is irrelevant to me). They also mentioned that the dealership I bought it from might be to blame. They assured me they had correctly adjusted and cleaned the chain. The following day, I went there and conducted a test ride, but the problem remained the same. Nothing had changed. That's the story so far. I'm quite certain it requires attention from a skilled mechanic.

Get back on to BMW Bristol Service centre, then.

Unless you want to go off on your own with another mechanic and pay for any repairs?
