    Deutsche Alpenstrasse - gpx file?

    Good day to you all..

Not sure about you lot, but when it rains and I can't ride as much as I'd like to, I get to either, planning stuff or buying stuff  :034:

Seeing as I don't need to buy anything at the moment I thought I'd start planning for next year's trip.

Early stages, but we could well be having a bimble :164:  down the Deutsche-Alpenstrasse https://www.deutsche-alpenstrasse.de/en/home

Anyway, I have a question, do any of you know if there is a gpx file of the route that I can down load to basecamp  :084: :187: Thank you.

yes, on that website you quote under Services https://www.deutsche-alpenstrasse.de/en/services/gps-data

Useful info here https://www.ukgser.com/community/threads/deutsche-alpenstrasse.348534/ - it mentions the Austrian Romantic road which carries on east of Salzburg if you have another few days. A chap has plotted the route into MRA if anyone in your group uses that app.

If you are there next spring then we might cross paths as it's on my list of potential 2024 trips.

On the way to Carinthia a few years ago we stayed in Kempten and then did a little bit of the Alpenstrasse, then heading south past Achensee to Zell am Ziller. I can recommend Hotel Peterhof in Kempten. Close to the city centre with underground parking. https://hotelpeterhof.de/

Not sure of our dates yet. This year we went to Normandy for the May Day bank holiday weekend and a few days after. Might be later next year, depending on who is coming as a few still have the encumberance of working for a living. Late May probably better due to the altitude.

if you want cheaper hotels then this French chain has expanded into Germany - rooms in Kempten are half the price of the Peterhof and it's also in the city centre not on an industrial estate like many of the cheaper chain hotels

they have 4 on or near the Alpenstrasse and would be perfect for overnight stops on the way

    Some great info, thank you.

I'm having a curry with my co organiser so I'll pass this on and we'll take a look together.  :028:

We too have to work around work..  :003: but it does pay for the trips..  :015:

here's a link with details of the Austrian Romantic Road - the author has provided English translations from the German Motorrad magazine and put the routes into MRA links you can use to generate satnav files. https://www.ukgser.com/community/threads/austrian-romantic-road.356050/

Wessie, you seem up on this stuff, can I ask as an hammer bashing idiot, not a tech wiz, now I put those files onto my twatnav? It's a Garmin 660. You also mention MRA links(?) lower down for Austrian road, hows that differ to GPX and getting onto twatnav?
    Cheers

for the Garmin, you need the GPX file. I note you have a Zumo 660 from the other thread. Ideally you download the GPX file to a folder on a computer that is running Garmin Basecamp. You then import that GPX file to Garmin Basecamp and use this to send the GPX file to the Zumo using a USB cable. Hopefully you know about the silly location of the USB port from updating the Zumo's maps.

There are tutorials on Youtube so practice.

I have a Zumo 390. I tend to plot routes on Google Maps and then manually enter them on my Zumo as I have had it 4 years and got to grips with it.

Thanks for that, so I'll need basecamp? Got loads to do before Monday so if get time I'll try to look into it . . . . .

if I'm honest, I prefer my OLD TomTom ONE, (yes still have one and it still works just can't update anymore as they stopped supporting last year) over this Garmin. Horrible bloody thing. Shame TomTom one wasn't a bike twatnav/waterproof etc or I'd use that . . . . . .
