Some new goodies for the Gen1 XR

So, this past Monday was Labor Day for us in the USA. It is a day to honor and recognize the American labor movement and the work and contributions of laborers to the development and achievements of the United States. So what do I do? I work on my motorcycle.   :002:

As some of you recall, a forum member was selling his complete exhaust system (Akra headers with LeoVince can). I purchased off the member since it's rare to see something like that sold, let alone here in the States. I got around to installing the system along with the SAS block-off plates, replacing the air filter, and installing my Cobrra Oiling system. The bike sounds sooooooooooo good. I'm not an old fart like some of you, but the "sportier" sound made me grin. Of course, I took out the baffle. I ride with earplugs (lots of wind noise in my Shoei X14), so sound isn't a significant concern.

The reason for the SAS block-off plates is I plan on dyno-tuning at a shop called Motorsport Exotica (about 2 hours north of me in Hollywood). After doing lots of reading, I thought a flash ECU tune was too generic for my liking, especially for that price. Motorsport Exotica is charging me $575 for a complete custom dyno tune, but they're also capable of remapping throttle angle, early fan kick-on, etc. I can do this on my own with BT, but I do not intend to return to stock, nor am I satisfied with BT's "cookie cutter" settings.

I will update the post when the bike is picked up this weekend. I have yet to ride the bike since installation, so I am very eager to get it back.

Will do! Just sucks that I don't have a baseline before the install. But, I suspect some good numbers. Honestly, I just hope everything is useable. It's my daily commuter so some mid-range gain would be ideal.

You’ll be fine the baseline will be in your head already, how it will pull in top gear at 3250 were the the TUV do their test you will never get bored with it,but the important part is fuelling and free flowing system one without the other is a waste of time, although I must confess to a preference to a Power Commander which always has a different feel to a direct map but that’s just me.

I done much the same during lockdown; headers, Leo Vince can, Bren Tune, Sprint Filter and acoustic baffles removed. Massive improvement in the mid-range, really fills in the dip, and a few more ponies at the top end as well. Bizarrely, the Leo Vince on a stock bike with the baffle in losses about 9hp as it runs too rich, but with all the mods it made very little difference - which was handy as I found it much to loud without baffles.

To check the roll on I used the "Harry’s Dyno App" and ran 30 – 80mph full throttle runs and averaged 7.45 seconds, half a second quicker than the stock 7.95 that it recorded before, so roll on definitely improved.

If you are adventurous, Bren also do a set of velocity stacks that give another 10hp+ at the top end with very little change in the middle.

Those are some nice numbers! Bike was dropped off last night and will be done Saturday. I'm so antsy haha.

I didn't want to adventure too far out since this bike is my daily commuter (82 miles round trip). I just wanted to spruce it up a bit. The go fast stuff is all on my CBR600RR track bike :)

Today is the day! I won’t get to ride it today but at least she will be ready for a quick ride tomorrow morning.

And? Eager to hear what you think. I got my 16 from a guy who had already done much of this and so I can't compare to stock. Full titanium Akra and power commander. All I know is that it will pull my arms off above 3,000 RPM going 30 or 120mph. No end to the eagerness to go faster. Damn, what a beast.
2016 XR with 23,000 and counting

Butt and ear dyno is very happy! The flat spot is gone in Dynamic Pro, but in Dynamic it's still there. However, the bike will power wheelie once that flat spot is gone. The bike sounds sooooooooo good! I have read that people say the popping on accel/decel after removing the SAS/PAIR system, but not for me. The pop during a quickshift is music to my ears, and it still has the decel pops that are so subtle.

As mentioned, I did not get to dyno the bike before the exhaust installation, but the shop did do a baseline with the exhaust installed. The bike made 156hp/78tq. After the special magic potion, the bike made 163hp/83tq.
