    Noisy Exhaust after Decat
    on: September 08, 2023, 04:06:47 am

Hi all, I have recently purchased a Gen1 XR.  I live in Australia.

The previous owner undertook a de-cat procedure for the bike and added Akra headers and a Delkevic exhaust.  The sound of the bike is awesome, angry and means business.  But it is too loud for my liking.  So, I added an oversized baffle from Delkevic to the exhaust.  This has made a difference (maybe 1-2db), but still the bike is too loud for my liking.

Your advice please.  What is the best solution to quieten my bike?  Will a particular brand of end pipe make a difference?  OEM/Akrapovic/Remus, etc.  Or is there some other method?

Thanks very much in advance for the feedback.

    Dave

OEM muffler will be worse...been there done that.....I also have a Gen-1 with Arrow Headers and Delkevic muffler with DB killer...it's now bareable. With the OEM muffler it was "LOUD"....they're straight through with essentially no baffles.

Once the cats are removed...there's essentially nothing to deaden the noise.

When I die, I want to go peacefully in my sleep like my Grandfather....not screaming like the passengers in his car..!

Having been forced by my darling wife into changing the GR Moto end I bought for a StreetTriple 105094R that we swapped our SuperMoto for earlier in the year,XR with Akra headers and MIVV end can passed the test you years ago.

Thanks Smithy.  I guess it's a personal thing as to what is bearable.  My Munich trained BMW mechanic has suggested an Akra pipe paired to my Akra headers would make a noticeable difference.  When I showed him the photo of my Delkevic pipe and complained about the noise, he was seemed rather offended by it and said it was a "horrible muffler".

Thanks Winger, haven't heard of MIVV pipes, but have had a look on-line.  Like the style and build quality.

Have just de-cated my S1000XR, the noise from the exhaust with an open ProRace pipe was just to noisy for me.
Replaced the ProRace pipe with the original BMW silencer, which is a straight through pipe and this is much more reasonabe.
Also had the bike tuned on rolling road by BHPUK Burnley and it is very nice to ride now.
Back to work  :002:now to pay for all this!

Glad to hear Parmere2410 that your pipe is quieter now.  When you refer to the original BMW silencer, are you referring to the OEM exhaust that came with the bike?  Am looking into tuning my bike one day.

Daveperth,  yes, re-fitted the original BMW silencer which came with the bike and is a straight through pipe, less noise now!!

Steer clear of Pro Race exhaust in Huntington UK. Put one of their slip on cans behind my cat and it was WAY TOO loud. Plus, a bracket broke within a few hundred miles. Tried to buy the db killer insert for it from them, but their customer support is practically non-existent.
