Reference to left and right hand is with respect to sitting on the bike ready to ride it - not looking back at the top box

Do the lids on Motorrad top boxes easily come apart or am I asking for trouble if I start?

My Gen 2 has the large (49 litre) Motorrad top box.  Closing the lid a couple of weeks ago I heard a loud 'crack' but everything looked good and the lid opened and closed again silently, so I thought nothing more of it.  Until yesterday, that is when I noticed that the white outer shell stands proud of the right hand hinge by a couple of millimetres, but the left hand side is flush.  The inner (black) shell is flush on both sides and seats properly all the way round against the static lower shell.  It is just the cosmetic upper outer shell that is misaligned to the right hand hinge.  When I look carefully in the gap that now exists, I see that a clip has popped out of its channel but the only way to get it back in is to take the lid to pieces.

    Cheers.
