    Tips on cleaning Akro exhaust

Just bought the bike, and the Akro has some streaky marks which I´d like to remove.

Not sure which product is safe for use, so thought I would ask here first before making it even worse  :033:

    Thanks

I've used this approach for years on my bikes' downpipes and collector boxes when COLD without even a hint of residual warmth - but as stressed, washing off with copious amounts of water (which means mechanically washing with a repeatedly soaking wet sponge not rinsing from a hose pipe and definitely not jet blasting the acid everywhere) is essential.  Try on an inconspicuous area the first time.

On my XR catalytic converter box and brake calipers I use Vanish carpet cleaner foam, again when COLD.  I let the foam sit for a few minutes and then agitate it with a brush that came with a bottle of Autoglym wheel cleaner - so stiff enough to work, but soft enough not to scratch.  Again, I wash off the residue thoroughly.  For the brakes this includes special care around the pistons.  I've done this for over two decades without issue, including on the Honda Hornet 600 that I have owned from new for all 25 years and 40,000+ miles.  The calipers still look mint in their original gold paint and have never been refurbished.  Just cleaned properly with brake cleaner each time they are loose to fit new pads.

On the XR's Akro titanium exhaust can, my Thruxton R's polished V&H cans and the Hornet's brushed stainless steel can cover, I simply wash very carefully to ensure no grit, and then polish using a clean microfibre cloth with car paint polish - in my case Autoglym resin polish.  This even polished out the one small scratch that the Akro can has so far obtained from the heel of my pillion son's boot.

A photo of the Hornet from summer 2022 when it was only 24 years and 39,000 miles old with original everything apart from servicing consumables.

Edited to add that this was after riding through heavy rain for half an hour since the bike was cleaned in preparation for a long distance touring holiday.
