The quickshifter on my 2023 XR is awesome.  Buttery smooth.  Most of the time but not all of the time.

Very occasionally, using it results in a jolt from hell if used at wide open throttle from 4th to 5th, and simply a jolt on partial throttle from 4th to 5th.  I'd say this is on 5% of this specific gearchange.  On all other 4th to 5th occasions and with all other gears on every occasion, it is incredibly smooth.  The 4th to 5th wide open throttle jolt that prompts me to write was made at 7,0000 RPM and was so severe that the bike noticeable decelerated before picking up again probably half a second later - which felt like forever.  It was like I'd hit the kill switch.

Edited to add that chain tension is spot-on.

Am I alone, or is this an imperfection to live with on what's a clever piece of engineering anyway?

4/5 is always a pain spot for motorcycles because usually that's when the gear change moves from the input shaft to the output shaft. All bikes have trouble there, just depends on how much they can be ironed out.

i suspect you are either preloading the shifter with your foot, or you have aftermarket levers (or both).

the chance that its a mechanical issue is almost 0.

    Just guessing.

Thanks, Both. Food for thought.  :028:

Standard lever.  I try not to preload it, but perhaps I am - and perhaps it is only apparent on 4th to 5th for the mechanical reason given.  On my next ride (likely next week as I have travel ahead) I will wear my snug fitting old Alpinestars boots (not my new Daytonas that are a size too big even though numberically both pairs are 42s) and consciously move my toe away from the lever between changes.

    Stand by, and thanks again.
