    r1200rs

Ya'll know I bought an r1200rs, I rode it from Birmingham to Leeds on the M1 with my partner on the back.. then stuck it in the garage.  :015:

Spend a few quid on it, sorting the ergonomics, including swapping the bars for the r1200r bars, fortunately I had a set on the xr, which I have now fitted to the rs and re fitted the original xr bars back on the xr (they're slightly wider than the r1200r bars) just had to buy the tops clamps, BMW York sorted them for me.  :028:

bar end mirrors, Lowered pegs, bigger screen, re shaped seat and I suddenly thought to myself, what the hell, I haven't even ridden it solo, in anger, in the twisties..  :084: :012: what if I don't like it..  :087:

Well, Saturday arrived and I got the chance to visit my fave local twisties, and I can tell you now, this is a proper piece if kit, smooth, torquey, rock solid in the bends, feels like it's on rails and also feels like it just wants to keep on leaning, so confidence inspiring.

Throttle control is impeccable, quick shifter is slick, up and down (once you got passed 1st to 2nd) the burbling, popping and crackling on deceleration was a welcome surprise. :007:

Speed is deceptive, mooching along a straight, screen up full, visor up, more wind noise than engine/revs noise, looked down and I'm into 3 figures, by quite a bit.. holy sh#t..  :005:

I would say it sits between the xr and the r1200r at around 75% xr and 25% r1200r.

    She's a keeper... :821: windy

I had the XR & RS but a decision to retire early and downsize my accommodation and fleet meant one had to go. The RS was the keeper. Just returned from 2000 miles in Spain on it. I am content with my decision.

Thank you, it's nice to have some reassurance and positive feedback when you make a decision  like this.

I'll be advertising the xr this week. I'm considering buying an early gen1 Tuono, 2004/05 ish..  :084:

It's an itch I need to revisit and scratch..  :001:

I test rode a 1250RS (with the shift cam motor) and was very impressed with it so I have a new one on order. As you say, deceptively nimble and the shift cam motor seems to have smoothed out a lot of the low revs issues. I also like the fact that I can easily get both feet flat on the ground ! The only trouble is that BMW have apparently put a sales stop on all new bikes leaving the factory and so I'm waiting and I don't know what the issue is or when I can expect the bike to be released/delivered.
At least I still have the XR to play on for now.

The stop sale was removed so you should be good to go.

That's good to know. I'll keep my fingers crossed that I get it soon.

Definitely looking forward to your review.  I have been eyeing that new R1300GS myself...might end up talking myself out of the MXR and into one of those instead.

In fairness boxers are what BMW do,had mine or be it more mods than stock forover 20 years, great right up in this weeks comic about the new 1300GS and BM need as much good PR as they can must, for you guy’s who don’t watch in WSB Baz has run out of engines their allocation is 6 for the year and he’s run out and had to take 7th which is unusual,Reading’s engine blew up big time on TV,and so did Haslam’s at Donington in a BSB race.
