LED aux lights to work with the LED DRL?
« on: August 29, 2016, 08:40:06 AM »
After a SMIDSY at the weekend, it's time for more light. Has anyone fitted some LED AUX lights that will work with just the LED DRL strip light, without the main headlight on? I have HID headlights, but I'm interested in the 3 light setup, as an option.

Which ones, there's quite a few? And will they definitely work with just the drl? Ideally I'd like something that doesn't require an additional switch on the handlebars.

I've just put led DRL's on the BM, but they are independant of the front DRL strip. They do use a switch on the bars, which to me, looks as if it was made for the job, and everyone who sees it, thinks it's a BMW switch.
Also, I had cause to strip down the nose of the bike the other day.........what a pain that was !! Didn't manage to get the black triangular panel out that houses the LED DRL strip light, so I would imagine, that unless you can tap in elsewhere, (ignoring any canbus issues), it may be a hard wiring job.  :013:

Are they the Givi handguard 'extenders'?
If so, how do you find them ?

Have a look on the Clearwater site.  Their lights work with the wonder wheel, and will come on with the front DRL.  You can get various sizes from small to monster.

They mount either on the front forks or on the bodywork with a special bracket.

They've not been fitted long, so I can't comment on their suitability to colder weather riding, ie keeping the wind off. They didn't go on easily if you have larger bar-end weights though, you have to widen the hole to allow the weights to slip into the end of the extender, but it's easily done. I think the existing extenders point down too much, and thus don't do their intended job. My Tiger ones are more horizontal, so much so, that I thought the XR bars had been adjusted when I got it. :016:

Wow, they're not cheap! I'll look at the Darlas. :001:

I assume by wonder wheel, you mean the factory fit handlebar wheel?

Yes, the wheel on the L bar.
