So, finally got the Gen 1 in for the "big" service at 24,000 miles (Valve clearances et al, missed by 6K I know).

    Labour £480 + vat , parts £160 = Total £767

Parts - Oil, filter, spark plugs, air filter, cooling fluid, manual camchain tensioner fitting.

Valve clearances all still within tolerance. All removed parts returned, photos of the work being carried out taken.

Cost was pretty much as expected from the initial quote. Bikes running smoother, no start up rattle :046:

Starting to save up for the next one now

Given recent talks about the XR etc I'm convinced that 18k service can be doubled safely, especially on a bike not abused into oblivion. If I were to get a brand new XR again I'd not do anything other than oil changes and filter changes until 36k

I see your reasoning Antares but would you expect a lower resale value without something near the BMW service schedule?

Don't really think so, XR prices are fairly stable regardless of history, and I'm not saying don't service the bike, you can go to BMW still and just tell them you only want oil and filters, but then I'd just do it all myself, this is one of the easiest bikes for basic service, easy access to both air and oil filter.
