Coolant query, checking the coolant fluid and its the normal blue/green in the reservoir but mustard and not clear in the radiator, time for a flush and new fluid.  Anybody seen the same?  (Oil is new and clear as a bell in the level window
    Cheers

That's really odd. Are you the original owner? If so, I would be somewhat concerned. I can't think of what would make the radiator fluid have that yellow color, except that it is a perfectly normal coolant color the PO might have added while not changing the fluid in the reservoir.

Not the original owner,  first time I've looked at it.  Bike was in for a service a few weeks ago, radiator and cooler were moved for access to do the valve clearances. Not sure if the full system was drained though or just the reservior topped up.

Going to drain anyway, flush and refill with new coolant
    cheers

Hi after a bit more digging around,  the exhaust  steam pipe is not connected at the engine side, pipe just pulled out ,  only connected at the reservoir cap end.
Anybody know where it connects to (bmw parts list only show the radiator,  reservoir and the steam pipe,  not what its connected to on engine/airbox end

Are you talking about the lower of the 2 small diameter pipes on the filler neck?? If so then it routes behind the right hand frame over the engine and connects under the lower injector rail.

Btw, I just flushed both my S1000R (43k miles) and my S1000XR (39k miles) and both had blue clear coolant, however my GS (22k miles) had similar coloured coolant to your picture above khaki murky coloured!!!

Ta for reply,  its the pipe that comes off the little rubber cap in the reservoir. Was then running up the reservoir, through the two pipes at the radiator filler cap an@ back towards engin behind the horn. Will add the parts picture in a moment

I think that's a vent hose...it's open to the atmosphere.  If memory serves it sits pointing upward wedged between a couple other hoses and through a clamp or something in stock config.

In that case I wouldn't be concerned at all about anything serious being wrong. They just used a different color coolant to fill the system based on what they had laying around in the shop. When you flush it, you will be fine. Make sure you use the proper non-silicate coolant and I'm an advocate for water wetter, reducing the amount of "coolant" (which doesn't cool) and by adding water wetter you greatly increase the lubrication in your coolant system with the pump. My 16 went from dripping out of the pump housing to not, when I went with water wetter early on. I use about 20% coolant, and the rest distilled and the proper % of water wetter. Works a charm. Bike runs cooler too but comes up to temperature fine since there is a thermostat.

    Cheers both,

Capt  you're right its the vent hose from the reservoir cap, has been pushed through the hole in the frame behind the horn just.
The steam pipe must be the lower  pipe from the radiator fill point,  now runs under the frame and over the cylinder head.

Using Mannol G12+ fluid after flushing.  Will look at the water wetter too
    Thanks for assist
