Looks like a Tracer, and probably where it'll get most of its sales from.

Piss poor effort to still only get 150BHP from the K5 motor when BMW got it to 190 (first gen RR)  :005: :001: :001: :001:

they have built the bike to get to a sub £15k price to attract a particular demographic. The price and bhp will keep insurance costs significantly lower. All essential if they are to take sales from the Tracer & Z1000SX who have been in that sector for years.

As Ryan said this is a competitor to the Tracer 9 GT and also as wessie said the Ninja 1000SX.

The japs just can't make a competitive machine to the XR, that K5 1000 engine is similarly bland and gutless like the CB1000R I have which is also similar to the Ninja 1000SX, albeit that one actually has a dedicated, slightly larger engine with some decent midrange, but no way it can touch the XR.

The XR has a "detuned" RR engine but what it means in reality is it actually has more power in the low-mid range, and by a significant margin. The XR makes almost 10hp more everywhere up 8500 RPM on the RR engine.

The K5 derived 1000s (GSX-S GT and GSX-S) are both significantly down on power everywhere compared to the GSX-R engine and as characteristic of them they have a humongous dip at 5-6k RPM, just like the CB1000R.

In actual practice I think the S1000XR engine is meatier and most definitely capable of keeping up with my mate's K8 GSX-R 1000 that has an exhaust, air filter and tune, supposedly pushing 180 at the rear wheel, only really starts walking from the XR 100mph+ and obviously top speed.

    But down below?

That's comparing my Gen 1.0 to a tuned GSX-R, a new Gen 2.5 XR will eat even this new GSX-S1000GX alive... No competition.

Just bear in mind it's nearer to the XR than the Tracer if we're only talking about power output.

Yes it's not going to be as fast as an XR in a straight line, that's obvious, but it certainly looks nimble and seems like Suzuki intend for buyers to have plenty of fun on it.

The lack of a centre stand as standard is disappointing however.

at least it is an option unlike the GSXS sibling

p16 of the brochure lists it as an accessory https://prod-suzuki.azureedge.net/media/25902/gsx-s1000gx_model_brochure_web.pdf

    A pretty-contrived video, I thought.

Did I pick up correctly (i was making dinner when it was on) - the Suzuki guy saying you could 'change gear with the cruise control' ?   Can't find it when skipping back through.

Or was he saying that you could change gear without kicking the cruise control - out?

I'm sure it will sell, though - especially with some discounts and decent PCP schemes.

I took it as though you could change gear without disengaging the cruise control.

seems Suzuki (and Kawasaki) are hanging onto 1980s service intervals - 6000km or 4000 miles so not great for those taking long trips for 90 days in Europe. I guess most riders will be servicing on time, though, so once a year.
