I just put the latest firmware on my GS-911 and it now lets you access the heated grip settings in the body control module. Stock settings were 40% and 65% for low and high, respectively. I changed it to 50 and 95. Only ran it in the driveway for a bit but it does seem hotter!

This sounds awesome, will have to check it out tomorrow. Hopefully the same function is available for the Gen1 S1000R as well

Very cool...I got the email about the firmware update with the notice about the grips and updated it this afternoon, but haven't hooked it up to the bike yet to try it out.  Could have used it today...

I never knew this was even an option. Thanks so much for sharing. I'll do this today! I ride here in the wet and cold PNW and short of a burn there is no heat too much to drive off the 40 degree wetness we endure for months on end.

So I'm in the garage trying to do this after updating the 911 firmware and everything. My first problem is that my battery sits at 11.8 volts, so I have to put on a charger to get it up to the minimum 12.5 volts the 911 requires. When I do this and turn the bike on, it drops pretty quickly back down to 11.8. This is an old problem that I've never figured out and the bike always starts and runs fine so I'm not that motivated to figure out how the hell that is happening. But back to this issue, I got the voltage up temporarily long enough to run the heated grips and the system said that my system is not compatible for some reason. It says: Coding for the software version of this controller is not yet supported.

Even though everything is up to date...

    Any ideas?

Only thing I can think of is checking both the firmware version is at 2311.1. Also, I think I remember reading something about it only working on the newer (red) GS-911's and not the older (yellow) ones.

I just noticed that too! I live in South Sound but often ride up the Olympic Peninsula or past Seattle to our boat in Friday Harbor. I never see XR's on the road and would love to run into you sometime.

I have the red GS911 Wifi and it's updated fully. I've asked the hexcode people for help but figure they aren't working today or are actually in NZ and it's midnight or something. I'll let people know what I find out.

I just talked with a co-worker that has a 2017 XR and he said the firmware on his bike was too old for this upgrade. He did some research and said that if you paid the shop to update the firmware it would likely work, but that isn't confirmed.
