Yes I heard that. My dealer puts GS bar ends on, they accomplish more or less the same result. I said no to the replacements, my XR has no vibration at least nothing that bothers me.

I wrote it also on this forum. Currently confirmed in Germany and Slovenia? Get in touch with your BMW HQ in UK and they should give you more details. The rubber inserts are being replaced with new ones.
Or if you are good in German you can read more here: http://www.s1000rr.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=12263&start=270

I recently wrote to Motorrad UK Customer Service and got the following response: "there have been some enhancements made to the 2017 model to help towards increasing rider comfort. We are currently liaising with the factory around the possibility of retro fitment of enhanced parts used in the new model"

They then recommended that I contact my local dealer in 30-60 days time.

I am not exactly overwhelmed by the customer service.

I had a call yesterday from BMW customer service.
They will not be giving out any information regarding any possible recall/retrofit for the modified parts.
I was advised to contact my dealer for further updates.
I contacted my dealer and they have had no information to date from BMW.

I am led to believe that this is the part number. 31428388607
The price listed varies from about £2.00 upwards depending if it comes from Germany or the UK sites.
There doesn't appear to be any pictures on the sites

Hi Guys,
I have been meaning to post this for ages. See email thread below between me and BMW UK (although it took quite a while to get a response!). I haven't spoken to my supplying dealer as yet although i'm well into the time frame now.

Question to BMW Customer Services:
Hi,
I purchased the above mentioned bike from Ocean Plymouth in June 2015 and have mostly loved it. The one obvious problem being the much discussed handlebar vibrations.

Now that BMW have acknowledged the problem by specifically dealing with it by fitting softer mounted handlebars to the 2017 version I assume that BMW will be retro fitting a conversion kit to existing owners bikes free of charge. This is clearly the least that they can do for customers who have spent so much money to own the 'ultimate riding machine'.

I would be grateful if you could initially confirm that this is your intention and also provide an indication of when the product recall is likely to take effect.

Many thanks in anticipation of your swift and positive response.

Regards,
Steve Hill

BMW Customer Service Response:
Good Morning Stephen

Thanks for your email regarding the new BMW S1000 XR – It’s great to hear that you have expressed an interest in the new model

You are correct that the new model features a number of enhancements as we continue to develop the range, including changes to the handle bar mountings. At this stage we are awaiting confirmation on the possibility of any of the changes made to the new model being able to be retro fitted to the current model and if this is possible weather we will be offering this as a free of charge quality enhancement to all current XR owners.

As such my suggestion would be to check with your local retailer in the new 60-90 days to see if this enhancement has been released for your bike.

If there is anything further I can assist with please do get in touch.

Kind regards

Ben

I have to say however that since asking this question I have fitted the Evotech bar end weights and they have virtually cured the problem anyway.

Hope this helps and let me know what response you get from your dealers!

Email from my dealer, John Clark in Dundee, received today.
Parts are available for retro fit at no charge.
Bike booked in for Monday plus new back tyre.
I thought I would get it done while they are a bit quieter.
Probably won't get a chance to test it 'til the better weather as the roads
are covered in crap.
