I have now completed the 18,000 mile major service  :046: Many thanks for all your help and advice  :763:
The  most involved job was removal and reinstalling items to access the rockerbox cover, it took hours. Well.... start to finish took about 5 hours each of the four days, thats 20 hours, so how a dealer can do it in one day I just don't know  :187:
Checking the valve clearances was straight forward with no adjustment required. Existing rubber gasket cleaned up and refitted.
I managed to purchase four stainless steel clamps totalling £9.95 for the throttle bodies 9mm wide 50 to 70mm diameter which worked fine. Total cost for all items £153.
Now... the SERVICE reminder on the dash needs sorting. I will take the bike to a local bike mechanic who has an APP on his phone, plugs it into the bike to reset the service reminder and clear any showing faults.

Questions... Do the throttle bodies need resetting? and is it necessary to bleed the ABS modulator?

I'm not doing the Shudda, Wudda, Cudda thing, would rather do "If I can, then why not"

Let's see what comes out with the soft launch on Monday 6th. :152: :047: :028:

I put an $89 APE tensioner on my K12, I'm buying one off ebay for $10 this time.   Nothing bad to say about the APE, just price.

So I had the M1000R out yesterday whilst my XR was in for service and WHAT a beast.

I know all our opinions are super subjective but being in my early 60's with a history of litre sports bikes for many years, it's difficult to let go of that adrenaline fix
of blasting about on your machine with your mates on a Sunday morning.

So for me, if the M1000R is anything to go by then I'm all in and bugger the expense. The mortgage is paid and the reality of not too many more years of riding left, so why not!!

I had my XR in for service and blagged the M1000R for a couple of hours, I've got to say that Reiten Motorrad are super dealers and have never had an issue with them.

It didn't improve the crap visability of the mirrors at speed though. :002: :033:

Couple on ebay, search for "S1000Xr manual cam chain tensioner" Don't spend big money on them, it's just a screw inside a screw, nothing fancy.

I can only imagine it will be worse on longer/wider bars of an XR. 😵‍💫🤪

Do they allow test rides on the M1000R then? Just checking because not sure if thats the case but some companies wont let you test ride limited series runs, afaik the M1000R isn't limited but the RR is isn't it? Just wanna make sure I can nick an M1000XR for a test ride as soon as they hit the shops.

Now I get to drop the motor, pull the head and see how many bent valves I have.
Great bikes, just know the oem tensioners are a chronic BMW problem.  Hydraulic tensioner runs on oil pressure, manual keeps constant tension.

Thanks for clarification  , Any specific reference for the manual one please ?

I don't think just plopping the RR engine into a XR chassis is the answer.  XR is a upright sport touring bike not a full on sport bike.  I was hoping BMW was gonna modify the existing XR engine for a bit more low/midrange.  The RR makes most of that 200+HP when it's bouncing of the rev limiter and that isn't what the XR is about.  Just in my opinion.
