Title: Almost time......
Post by: Redspooky on October 20, 2019, 08:16:00 PM
Well tomorrow I’m going to pick my new Sport Se up..... a bit gutted that a new model has been officially announced - I could have waited till next year but I had the opportunity and got a good deal so hoping for some dry weather!

Any tips for the collection and ride home - it’s been 20 years since I had a new bike!

:047: and hope the weather is favorable for your ride home...
On the tip front: take it easy, remember you probably have new tyres fitted that will need scrubbing in...
But most importantly, ENJOY!  :152:

Has a new model been officially announced?

I can't find anything other than conjecture.

If you haven't ridden a modern bike for 20 years, just be aware, this bike will make a 20yo sport bike look slow by comparison....take it easy for a while. It's actually a modern sport bike on stilts....they're seriously angry above 6-7k rpm.

Don’t think it will take a rocket scientist to work out it’ll be some spin off of the overly complicated RR that BM have been unable to tune with any reliability in WSB and BSB and my informants tell me the new Blade will be along similar lines but with wings on as for buying a new model(any) the game changer will be the V4 Multistrada when ever that turns up and with the original V4 motor being 1100cc any inline 4 will be up against it in a serious pissing contest with just a 1000cc.

Hi Bazzer.
Yep no longer conjecturer. I posted the article at the end of last week, it is now official that the new bike will arrive in 2020, it will have the new shift cam engine plus a new frame etc. You can find a related article on Bennetts .uk website......

Great choice and it should be a bit of a shock to see how bikes have improved  over 20yrs.

My main recommendation is to study the handbook and find the page where you can alter the engine modes, especially the one called “Hooligan Mode” as I have never found out how to turn it off , even after 3 yrs !

When I bought my X/R in 2016 I hadn’t had a new bike for 15 years but that didn’t mean I hadn’t been riding a bike  :001:

@Bree I thought that was just someone had seen they had filed emissions paperwork rather than there had been an official announcement from BMW?

No doubt its coming, just had not seen anything official from BMW.

@winger I think Sykes and Idon would disagree with you, the new BMW has been almost competitive with a STANDARD engine. Its just its arrived too late in the year for any serious development work. Pretty sure it will clean up in Superstock 1000s next year now they can actually get hold of them. I am no BMW fanboi either, but the BMW has kicked the sh#t out of the Aprilia and Ducati on any track or dyno test I have seen. Trust me I watch a lot too :-)

Though I am sure the V4 Multi will have a bit more charm than the BMW (I am seriously looking forward to the V4 Streetfighter) I would not hold my breath that it will perform better.

Bazzer

At some time we’ll have to meet up at a GP or WSB and swap notes but I can assure you Sykes agrees with me or me with him and anymore info than that is above my pay grade or something like that.

So when did sykes sit down with you and give you this information. I am sure we would all be interested in what he confided with you.

I bet you would and if you turn up the same time as Bazzer I’ll tell you the same as him but the situation won’t need a great deal of explaining and at a Moto GP would come as even more of shock just one of those quirks in life i’m Afraid.

How about giving us all a straight answer. Rather than a load of mumbo jumbo, or are you trying to get people to believe he confided in you over a cup of tea in your kitchen....whilst discussing his plans for next year..  :164:

@winger, interestingly everyone I know who has ridden one has been super impressed. That includes ex British championship riders, so not just a bunch of mugs.

I am sure to begin with Sykes was a bit down on it as it was down on power as he was running a bog stock engine, as the bikes were delivered too late to do any development work on for the early season.

I spoke to Eugene Laverty at Portimao about it (after testing and hes riding it next year) he was really impressed. So I guess we will have to see.

My prediction is it will do a lot better next year in BSB and will clean up in Superstock. Don't forget in Superstock the V4S is not eligible due to capacity and the V4R is not eligible as the base bike is too expensive.

Two of my mates track V4S's and its is a beast of a bike, very very fast. But so is the new RR !!!

Brakes are bled, and I’m still lost........ :087:

Winger - what’s the revelation?  Simple sentences would be good, without the ‘blimey-if only I could tell you/it was interesting to say the least’ stuff.  :110:

I’m almost reading these posts in an “Allo-Allo” voice-  such is the subterfuge and secrecy.  :007:

:001: :001: :001:  Not much chance of a simple answer, me thinks. Avoiding the question springs to mind........ :211:
