Title: Oil Cooler replacement
Post by: Rover75golf on November 04, 2019, 01:13:08 PM
Hi my oil Cooler has failed and I have been told its beyond economical repair.
Can anyone tell me where I might find an alternative unit ?
The BMW dealer advised its approx £375 to provide a factory replacement unit.
Does anyone know if the Oil Cooler fitted to the 1000 RR is the same ?
the part number is 17218545633 for both bikes ?
any help or suggestions welcome thanks

Hi Rover75golf!

According to ETK, the BeeM fiche, the rads are the same and fit the models as below:-

K42 (HP4)   (09/2011 — 07/2014)
K46 (S 1000 RR)   (10/2010 — 11/2018)
K47 (S 1000 R)   (02/2013 — 03/2019)
K49 (S 1000 XR)   (05/2014 — 03/2019)
K60 (HP4Race)   (02/2017 — 05/2018)

Have a look at www.realoem.com for further info if needed. At least interest rates are low at the moment, in case you need a loan  :232: Hope this helps!

Looks like you were riding through some nasty mud and stuff with it in that state  :008:

I’d try James Sherlock first they have broken a very low mileage X/R I was in there Friday stocking up on parts of it for the long haul and if all else fails quite a tidy one on eBay £125.

Ok will give them a call tomorrow thanks for the lead  :028:
Ref the state of the cooler, there was a lot of mess on the roads up in Scotland and they might have contributed to it. She was pretty filthy when I got back. With 29000 miles she has done quite a bit of work 👍
Must admit she does go well even in the heavy rain !  Thanks everyone for your help

As Bree said.....get yourself a pair of rad/oil cooler guards....for the small cost of them, they can save a lot of grief.

They were pretty much the first thing I purchased when I got my bike....once I noticed there's three acres of radiator/oil cooler just begging to get hit by a stray stone or rock.
Had a mate destroy his holiday, (S1000RR), and his wallet after collecting a stray stone through his radiator.

Smithy.

The joys of not having to work we go to a bike meet of a Wednesday morning there were 3 X/R’s last week all with skanky oil coolers a guard might stop the stones but it won’t Stop the scht.

Best fit a fender extender then. Works for me, unless of course you want to ride across fields for fun......................:041:

Hi everyone. First of all thanks for all the help. I managed to find a replacement at the bike breakers you told me about. Immaculate condition and now fitted and bike is back on song. I did have rad and cooler guards so removed cleaned and refitted them also. While it was stripped gave the radiator a good clean ! Couldn’t believe the cr**p that came out of it.
It went back together no problem and a lot easier to work on that’s i first thought.
Thanks again for the help  :152:

Thanks she is mostly original and hasn't been restored.  every year i say I will take her to bits and sort everything and then spring comes around and I MOT her and tax here and all of a sudden another year is gone  :008: :046: :152: :038:
(just noticed pics taken with side shields removed )

You don’t see many CB-X these days - without scaffolding spoiling the look of the engine !

Always nice to have a bike that’s making money as opposed to loosing it  :002:
